have gone through many of the same weight loss trial and errors that everyone has. I have tried almost every diet that exists, every diet pill and every workout program that has been advertised on TV; just to find out that there is no magic pill and that the workout programs either gather dust or they were not the right program for me.

In 2007 my husband and I decided to put some new trees in front of our house. After shoveling only two shovels full of dirt I was out of breath! I thought, "OK this is ENOUGH, I have to get into shape!" I was the heaviest I had ever been in my life. Something had to change and change now!

I decided to conduct some research on weight loss and discovered how our body works and figured out what to eat and why and what exercises I needed that would fit my goals and my lifestyle. Fitness and health became my hobby, my children saw my enthusiasm and started asking questions and now read food labels and want to exercise with me; it is a great feeling to know that I am setting a great example for my children.

After all my hard work and persistence I was so excited to reach my goals. I lost 27 pounds (I am only 5’2”, so that is a lot of weight for me) and went from 29% body fat to 18% body fat and went from a women’s size 9 to a junior’s size 1.

I grew such a passion for health and fitness that I decided to enroll in school to become a personal trainer. I became a Certified Fitness Trainer and a Fitness Nutrition Specialist through the International Sports Science Association (ISSA), where I learned to work with all ages of people, all fitness levels and now have the ability to provide nutritional advice. I know how I felt when I met my goal, which is why I am so excited to help you reach your goals!

Hello, I'm one of the newer trainers here at APF.  I was born and raised here in Spokane, many I'm sure know that Amy is my mother. Funny enough this wasn't part of my plan becoming a trainer, so much, that I would joke about it as my mom started this business. But as being one of those active people all my life playing all kinds of sports (football most of all) I needed to find a way to enjoy life and enrich it with activity. It wasn't until I had a ACL injury did it leaded me on this path. After treatment and lots of flailed attempts to recapture my past I started to get in the dumps. Gaining lots of weight and overall becoming lazy. Finally I had enough, realizing that this wasn't the end of my athletics, taking my mom's teachings I soon applied them to myself. Now 2 years later I have dropped 50lbs and pursuing a natural a bodybuilding career! Now dedicated to helping others make achieve their goals and enrich their life with fitness as it has for me!"

Being a local Spokane girl I grew up heavily in competitive dancing, enjoying competitions across the US. This athletic style drove me in my high school years to be at the top of my game competing in cheerleading making it all the way to nationals. As a young adult while attending college my husband and I ended up starting our Family sooner than we had anticipated. Once having my first, then second, and finally 3rd daughter my weight fluctuation and hormones were in a constant roller-coaster ride.


It came to a point where I had enough of trying to win the weight loss battle alone. I came to A Personal Fit looking for help. I worked with Miranda and Amy and decided to do my first competition in Figure and Physique and fell in love with working out and challenging myself. In doing so I found a life style that I love and enjoy the comradery that the gym atmosphere brings. I also enjoyed how welcoming these ladies made me feel and how encouraging everyone was. After stepping away from APF for a short Hiatus I received my personal training certificate through ISSA. I look forward to helping others with their fitness goals.

Mandy Vahlkamp - CPT


I have been involved in athletics since I was a child, I was very active in volleyball, track, and also traveled for competitive all-star cheer. I started coaching competitive cheer about seven years ago and I love working with the kids and seeing them progress. In 2014 I decided to take my fitness level to an extreme and competed in my first figure and bikini show. I fell in love with the sport and decided that fitness was truly what I loved so I decided to change my career to help others reach their fitness goals. I was excited to be able to start personal training at A Personal Fit because I truly believe in the company and what they stand for when it comes to a healthy lifestyle. I've now competed in five shows over the past few years and also took on coaching girls for Bikini. There's no better satisfaction than helping people change their lives whether that be to have the body that they've always wanted or just to have a better handle on their health and fitness. Being physically fit is something I believe that most people are striving for and with the proper tools it's a very achievable and maintainable lifestyle.

Mica Johnson -  CPT/Marketing manager


Growing up I was an active teen, involved in golf and captain of my Cheer squad. After high school, College took it's toll. Working fast food, I noticed the pounds begin to pack on but quickly blamed it on the freshman 15. After college, getting married and having two kids I decided it was time to get back in shape. I met Amy and Miranda when I joined the first Fat Loss Challenge at APF. After training with them for a year I decided to do my first of many Figure Competitions and this started my journey in the fitness world! 

While continuing to be a full time mom, wife and photographer;  I noticed that more and more of my time was being devoted to fitness, food prep and trying to make my family healthier as a whole. I began teaching classes...and this lead to teaching more classes! I LOVE spending time with my friends I have met at APF, every class is just more time to spend with these amazing people!

I went back to school and received my certification for Personal Training and am excited to help others reach their goals and maybe even create new ones along the way!

Miranda Downs - CFT

I have always been an active girl, I first started playing soccer at a very young age.  I played for 7 years and found my second love; volleyball. Soccer and volleyball play at the same time in high school so I had to choose between the two. I chose volleyball hoping to do well in the future. I’m really glad I did because I played with the best bunch of girls at Spokane Falls Community College for 2 years. After playing for the Falls I was ready to start a career and live my life.

I became a full time Dental Assistant but I was missing being active. That is when I was introduced to Amy Brantner. I had trained with her for 2 years, ready for new challenges. After training so hard and looking at the amazing results, Amy and I competed together in a Figure Competition. I would have never imagined competing in a figure competition.  After this we came to the conclusion that since I enjoyed working out so much, and since I already loved helping others in class that I was ready to help other ‘s change their lives. I went back to school to become a Personal Trainer. I am very excited to meet new people and help them change their lives.

From girly girl as a child to a girl who could hang with the boys, I have finally made it to an official fitness enthusiast!. Mainly growing up in Spokane, I was a graduate from Central Valley and started going to college to become a Surgical Tech until realizing what my true passion in life was... FITNESS TRAINING. I was always a little over weight and not the most athletic type until I had my first son, Ryker! Once he was born my whole outlook on life changed.! He has saved me from myself and I am now instilling lifelong fitness in him. I have stepped on stage twice as a figure competitor and my next en devour will be power-lifting. Recently I have become certified through NASM as a Personal Trainer offiering in gym, on location and online training! When I am not working or kicking my own butt in the gym, I can usually be found outdoors with my little family hiking, camping, OCR racing or simply taking the dog for a walk. Being healthy and active is of extreme importance to me and I cannot wait to help you on your journey to a healthy lifestyle as well!

Zach Clow - CFSC/CFAC

I have spent most of my life in the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene area. I was very active at a young age outdoors and with sports. I excelled at multiple sports in high school and had the opportunity to play football and get my education at Whitworth University. I have a degree in Kinesiology and certifications in functional strength (CFSC) and speed and agility (CSAC). I have close to a decade of experience mentoring and coaching youth and almost four years helping adults reach fitness goals. I have had a bumpy road getting to where I am today but through the turmoil I have found my purpose to impact lives on a daily basis in a positive way. Coaching and fitness is the vehicle I use to serve humanity. I want to make you a better you by making dysfunction function again and work with your limitations not around them or create more. Prolonging and enhancing quality of life is my main goal. I am very excited to be a part of the APF family and look forward to meeting so many different people on this journey.

Natalie Dodd - CPT/B.S. Exercise Science

Hi everyone! I am a fiercely devoted wife, mother to three boys and I have a serious passion for fitness! Things weren’t always so good for me physically. When I was 17 I was in a car accident where my family was hit by a drunk driver on the freeway. I was given a grim prognosis of what my future should look like with the injuries I sustained. It took years of working through chronic pain and depression to build my body back to a reasonable fitness level. Being unable to be as healthy and active as I wanted really lit a fire in me! I am determined to maintain a fit healthy lifestyle because I know first hand what it’s like not to.

I have embraced a life filled with movement and helping others. Since 2000 I have worked as a clinical and sports massage therapist. I spent 6 years teaching yoga and group cycling classes. After the birth of my second son, I was struggling with Postpartum Depression and began long distance running with my dad and that helped greatly with my mental health. I completed several races at the 10K, half-marathon and full marathon distances. I am certified through the RRCA to coach distance runners up to the marathon distance. I also love weight training and have competed in four bodybuilding competitions. In 2013 I completed my B.S. in Exercise Science/Pre-physical therapy through EWU. I am also an ACE certified personal trainer. I spent 2 with the LIVESTRONG program at the YMCA, in which I worked with post-treatment cancer patients focusing on exercise and developing a community of support within the class. I have 500+ volunteer hours in Physical Therapy in various facets of the profession. As a personal trainer, I am confident working with all types of people including those who are elderly, have orthopedic limitations, working their way back from a surgery or injury or an extended period of inactivity.
